New England Equal Best Victory Run Since Brady Years with Triumph Against New York Jets
First-year player Henderson has tallied five TDs in the present year
The New England Patriots matched their best victory streak from the Brady era as they overcame AFC East rivals the Jets by 13 points in the NFL
First-year standout Henderson was the standout with three TDs as the Patriots claimed an eighth consecutive victory for the first time since star signal-caller Tom Brady's last year with the franchise in 2019
Quarterback Maye threw for 281 passing yards and a touchdown, completing 25 of 34 passes
The triumph increases the Patriots lead at the top of the division as they improved to nine wins and two defeats, with the New York at the foot after dropping to two wins and eight losses
The opposing team had scored first at their home field with QB Fields rushing for a five-yard TD to conclude the Jets' opening drive
But the home team responded in the second period as Henderson scored two seven-yard touchdowns before the running back grabbed a reception from Drake Maye at the back of the endzone midway through the third quarter to push the score to 21 to 7
"That was a key occasion for him delivering, and it's been great for him to keep gaining experience," the quarterback said of the rookie. "He desires to be excellent."
Justin Fields threw to Metchie toward the end of the third period to close the gap for the Jets but Andy Borregales kicked a two field goals in the fourth quarter as the home side wrapped up the win
