Skydiving Trainer Dies Following Plummeting Without Parachute in Music City
The Federal Aviation Administration is looking into the fatality of a parachuting trainer following he got detached from his client during a dive in Nashville, Tennessee.
Authorities say trainer the instructor "is presumed to have dropped from the air without a safety chute" during the dive on Saturday.
The instructor, 35, seems to have separated from his student and a tandem rig, which links the two during a dive and contains the parachute.
A law enforcement aircraft located Fuller's body in a forested zone some time after. Local emergency crews utilized multiple pieces of equipment to access the 46-year old client who survived the descent after being stuck on a tree branch for hours with the emergency parachute.
Officials said several additional jumps, which occurred near a local airport, were successfully completed prior to the deadly incident. Aircraft from which they leaped also touched down without issue.
The cause remains unknown how Mr Fuller, an experienced skydiver, became separated from the protective gear.
A individual who assisted rescue teams in the operation told a media outlet the client who authorities saved said "he was a first-time jumper, and it was going to be his last".
Mr Fuller had recently written about his enthusiasm for instructing people how to parachute.
"Instructing individuals to parachute has consistently been in my opinion the most satisfying job at the jump site," Mr Fuller said in an Instagram post in the summer.
"Watching them figure it out and begin maneuvering their bodies is consistently a heartwarming experience. Sometimes though, it can become quite chaotic up there when you let someone go for their first time."
That same month he shared photos of the damage a skydiving plane he was on saying the aircraft's motor had malfunctioned after departure. Every individual aboard survived.
